Hello everyone. Today I will be reviewing my Canon Rebel T6. Is the Canon Rebel T6 a good camera for chasing or is it a flop? First off I would like to point out that I am not an expert on Digital Single Lens Reflex cameras. So the opinions that I will be sharing today will mainly have to do with my experiences with using the Canon Rebel T6 while chasing. Why should a chaser be interested in purchasing this DSLR, you might ask? Well simply put you can purchase this camera right now for $360 at Walmart or $400 at Best Buy. Now don't let that price scare you, because with 18 megapixels and 1920 x 1080 video resolution this camera will leave you with great photos and great footage. The Canon Rebel T6 weighs in at around 15.52 ounces or almost 1 pound. So, that means that you will not have to worry about carrying a heavy camera while chasing. This camera is only able to hold 1 SD card and unlike the Canon Rebel T6i does not have a flip out screen. If you get the Canon Rebel T6 kit version you will receive a 18 - 55mm lens and a 75 - 300mm lens which both do great while chasing or if you are just outside shooting photography. This camera also has the ability to connect to your phone via WiFi which is built into the camera. Meaning, you can transfer your photos from your camera straight to your phone without any wires! Simply put, if you have never used a DSLR camera before the Canon Rebel T6 is a great camera to start learning with.
Now let's get down to business and talk about how the Canon Rebel T6 performs out in the field. I originally bought the Canon Rebel T6 for a photography class I was taking in College back in 2017, but during a chase in October of that same year my Canon camcorder died. So I began using my Canon Rebel T6 to shoot my chase footage. I have been absolutely impressed with the quality of my footage that has come from this camera since then. It seems that it doesn't matter whether it's the daytime or nighttime. This DSLR will put out crisp and clear footage.
One thing that people get worried about when looking at DSLR's for filming, is that the person shooting footage will not be able to continuously shoot after a period of time due to overheating or other things. Well just like any other DSLR the Canon Rebel T6 is only able to shoot for 30 minutes at a time. Meaning, after 30 minutes of recording the camera will stop and you will have to restart the recording. I personally have not had a problem with this yet, because I only film when I need to.
When it comes to shooting photos with this camera. The camera itself and the kit lenses you get with the Canon Rebel T6 will do just fine and if you want to buy other lenses to get a wider shot or a closer shot of a subject you are still able to buy other lens just like any other Canon DSLR. Overall I would have to highly suggest buying this camera if you have never worked with a DSLR before or if you are someone who has, but still is not ready to get a more professional camera.
