Who Am I?
I am Mike Thornton, I chase storms mainly in Oklahoma, Kansas, and Texas. I first became interested in severe weather when an F-3 tornado struck the town of Stoughton, Wisconsin on August 18th, 2005. The Stoughton F-3 caused 42 million dollars in damage and killed one person. About 8 years later, I would chase for the first time ever in South Central Wisconsin. With only a phone to use for radar and video, I set out on my first chase.
The year is now 2020 and I have been chasing severe weather for the past 8 years. I have given speeches on severe weather safety at camps, and I am currently majoring in Emergency Management. Since I began storm spotting in 2012, I have chased many tornadoes including the 2017 Elk City tornado, which was an EF-2 that went through Southeastern parts of Elk City. If you ever see me on the road chasing, don't be afraid to come up to me and say hello. See you all under the meso!
