Who Am I?
I am Mike Thornton, I chase storms mainly in Oklahoma, Kansas, and Texas. I first became interested in severe weather when an F-3 tornado struck the town of Stoughton, Wisconsin on August 18th, 2005. The Stoughton F-3 caused 42 million dollars in damage and killed one person. About 8 years later, I would chase for the first time ever in South Central Wisconsin. With only a phone to use for radar and video, I set out on my first chase.
The year is now 2020 and I have been chasing severe weather for the past 8 years. I am a NOAA Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador, a severe weather safety speaker for camps, and an Emergency Management student who highly believes that if people are educated about what severe weather can do, we can effectively reduce the loss of life. If you see me on the road, do not be afraid to say hi!
